Seres Laboratories, Inc. has successfully provided the custom synthesis of intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) as well as process identification and scale-up services, to the pharmaceutical and biotech community from the San Francisco Bay Area since the late 1970’s.  Seres has been registered with the FDA and licensed by the State of California as a drug manufacturing establishment since 1979. 

Seres has been successfully helping companies make the transition from milligram quantities of discovery intermediates and API’s into scale-up R&D quantities for toxicity testing and formulation work and cGMP manufacture for clinical trials and small lot commercial API manufacture.  Development services include novel process identification as well as optimization and scale-up of client provided processes.

In 2000, Seres completed six, independent, HEPA-filtered cGMP suites, each with a walk-in hood capable of housing vessels up to 100-liters.  In 2006 two of these cGMP suites were certified as Class 10,000 clean rooms.  Separate R&D laboratory areas are set up to operate from benchtop to 100-liter scale.

Seres chemists work with a scale-up mentality and listen closely to match up with customer needs.  Our chemists are capable of designing a process from scratch, optimizing a discovery process to prepare for scale-up at Seres or at a larger scale elsewhere, or rapid turnaround of a product by an existing process. 

Some of Seres’ recent chemistry challenges have involved working with lithium aluminum and sodium hydrides, hydrogen sulfide and thiophosgene and performing hydrogenations, Suzuki couplings, specialty polymerizations and diafiltrations. 

Some of our recent handling challenges have involved dealing with air, moisture and light sensitive compounds.
